About Roman Glass
The Ancient Romans discovered the art of glass making and created exquisite vessels for olive oil, water, perfume, and wine. Glass was a fine luxury available only to the affluent, and wealthy patrons commissioned artisans to fashion vases, goblets, jewelry, tiles, and windows of endless variety.
Roman glass has been discovered at various archarological sites spanning the lost cities of the Roman Empire. Roman Glass vessels were exported throughout the known world and specimens have been found in ancient tombs from Egypt to China. Many glass artisans lived in Judea (now Israel), so much of what has been discovered has been found there after being buried for more than 2000 years.
